Why Hire a Licensed, Insured Contractor
Stewart Scott attended a conference in Hartford, CT a few years ago. During one of the meetings, the presenter told a story of a tree service that was doing work at someone’s home. A worker was injured and the tree service provider didn’t have insurance. At that point the liability fell back on the home owner. The home owner became the general contractor. Their home owner’s insurance wouldn’t cover the claim either. They lost their home because they failed to VERIFY the insurance of the tree service.
“I often encourage our customers to call and verify that we have coverage, which we do. Some contractors will purchase insurance in order to get a piece of paper that says they have insurance, then they cancel it. A letter stating that a contractor has insurance is worth the paper where it is written. Every home owner should make every contractor show proof and then call the insurance provider to verify that there is something behind the piece of paper.” – Stewart Scott, Owner of Cevet Tree
